Stories from the 5th District

5th District Rides to Colorado Springs for 2009 RallyHave we got stories for you!! most of them I don't really want repeated but this rally provided us with enough laughter till next year's rally. I'll give you the first one from our trip: We got a late start because one guy didn't read his email and thought we were leaving at 9:45 instead of 9:15. Not a really big deal but you know how it is when you are getting started on a three day ride... you want to get going! So we finally get going and we head from Kenosha, Wi with 6 riders from the 5th District just of the main highway and making good time on a two lane road in a rural part of Northern Illinois, when after about a hundred miles or so a bike from the back of our group pulls up and informs me that "Scooter" was having problems with his Ultra and we needed to stop. Well, Scooters bike was electrically dead for unknown reasons and we were to say the least disapointed. After several phone calls back and forth to a couple of HD dealers arrangements were made and in a couple of hours of sitting in the hot sun on the roadside with a roadkill racoon, a service truck and trailer from the HD Dealer in Monroe Wi. Scooter's beautiful custom FD edition Ultra was pushed into the trailer and the five us followed back to the dealership. Once in the shop, Scooters bike received prompt attention and we were much releived to hear that the problem was quickly diagnosed and fixed in about 15 minutes ( Bad wiring connector at the starter) total cost of the repair was about 28 dollars, and since Scooter is a HOG member, it was a free tow! We would be back on the road in a few minutes, Scooter goes into the service area to complete the paperwork while his bike is taken out by the reat of ours, All eyes are on Scooter as he goes to start his bike.. The headlight is on but he suddenly throws his hands up and barks out "I got Nuttin! I Got nuttin!!" As he marches into the dealership to exclaim his total dismay as the bike is still not starting, one of our guys turns the handlebar kill switch back to the "run" position ( scooter NEVER uses this switch apparently) and as he is explaining his crisis to the gal at the service desk everyone hears the distinctive sound of Scooter's bike... The look on his face was PRICELESS and for the rest of the trip.. All it would take to get a smile out of anyone was just to exclaim, "I got NUTTIN !" After that we figured we had a couple of hours of daylight to ride with but we wanted to eat first so we headed to a local establishment but that is another story.... Phil Jacobs Local 414

Magnificent 7th 2024 Spring Opener
Jun 14, 2024
Hello Brothers and sisters, it's time once again to plan for the 7th District ride June 14th through
16th.
We're trying to recreate the ride a few years ago from Lewiston to Joseph, Oregon.
Due to hotel circumstances in Lewiston we are not able to stay there, so we're going to start in
Oregon and ride north over the rattlesnake highway.
Wilderness Inn
Enterprise, Oregon 301 West North Street

The block rooms are under "IAFF 7th District"
